How these figures are produced

Two saunas in three have no published rated power, and we established that by reading the manuals rather than by asking. Every sauna on this store that links a manual — 102 of 165 active SKUs — had its document downloaded and parsed: 3.8 million characters of extracted text. 90 of the 135 readable manuals give a supply spec and no rating. 36 carry no electrical information at all. Nine yielded a rating, and not one came from a spec plate: six from a single FAQ page on page 22 of an assembly manual, two from a warning line on a cover page, two from a dimension drawing.

So for 92 of our 139 priced saunas there is no honest running-cost figure to print — not ours, not anyone's. The calculator asks you for the rating, points you at the manual where we have a working link, and computes from your number with it labelled as yours. If you do not have it, the total is computed without running cost and says so.

The same formula we published on 9 September 2026 in What a Home Sauna Actually Costs, unchanged. An 8 kW traditional room, three 45-minute sessions a week, every week of the year, is 936 kWh: about $172 a year at the US average residential rate, $277 in Massachusetts, $123 in Nevada. The kilowatt-hours are ours to get right. The dollars follow from where you live.

Session length is your input, not our model. It defaults to 45 minutes because that is what the article computes with. We do not model preheat from your climate, because we hold no source for how long a given cabin takes to heat in a given January.

Five-year total

(purchase + delivery + any one-off figures you entered) + 5 × (running cost + maintenance, where each is known)

A line with no figure is excluded and named, never treated as zero. If running cost is out because the manufacturer publishes no rating, the total says so, the per-session line says so, and the exclusion list says which lines are missing and why. A partial total that states what it leaves out is more use than a complete one that is wrong.

What we will not do

  • We will not turn 240V × 30A into 7.2 kW. That product is the breaker's capacity, and a heater is deliberately sized below its breaker. The arithmetic is always available and it is always wrong, so there is no code anywhere in this calculator that performs it.
  • We will not borrow a rating from a similar model, a brand average, or a class average. Rated power is the input the running-cost line is most sensitive to; a plausible wrong kW produces a precise, confident, false dollar figure, which is worse than none.
  • An unresolved ZIP gets a coverage gap, never a national average. The EIA publishes a US average of 18.34¢/kWh and ten census-division aggregates — ENC 19.81, ESC 14.89, MAT 25.43, MTN 14.95, NEW 27.60, PACC 27.64, PACN 43.14, SAT 16.04, WNC 15.97, WSC 15.35. They are printed here so you can see them and nothing in the calculator can read them. An average presented as your local rate is a made-up number wearing a federal source's clothes.
  • Three different ZIPs fail three different ways, and the page says which. A PO-box-only or single-building ZIP has no Census area at all. 137 ZIP areas straddle a state line and so have two rates, not none. 149 belong to US territories, which have no row in the EIA residential series.
  • Delivery shows even when it is free. "$0 curbside — included in your price" is a line you can read. A hidden line is indistinguishable from one nobody accounted for.

Installation is not published here, on purpose

We do not print an installation cost. Not a figure, not a range, not a regional average, not a default. That has been our position since 9 September 2026 and it has not moved.

An average is not a quote. Electrical work depends on your panel's spare capacity, the run from panel to cabin, your local code, whether a permit and an inspection are required, and what electricians charge in your county this month. A single national number papers over all of it and reads as authoritative precisely because it is specific.

So the electrical line is your electrician's quote, typed in, and it goes into the five-year total exactly as entered. The same applies to a foundation pad and to annual maintenance: we hold no source that publishes either, so each is your figure or an explicit omission. The $1,800 tier is InHouse Wellness's delivery and assembly — electrician labour is a separate, third-party bill and is never folded into it.

What the rest of this search result publishes

Every competing page on this query publishes a monthly running cost. Surveyed by InHouse Wellness in September 2026, the figures on offer were $4–6, $10–15, $15–25, $20–30 and $30–90 a month — a spread of more than twenty times, for the same question.

They cannot all be right, and the reason they disagree is that none of them is computed from anything. A running cost is a rating times a duration times a rate. Take away any one of the three and what is left is a guess with a dollar sign on it. For two saunas in three the rating does not exist, so for two saunas in three nobody can publish that number honestly — including us, and we say so here instead of filling the space.

This competitor survey is the one claim on this page that comes from InHouse Wellness's own market research rather than from a dataset with a fetch date. It is presented as a survey, dated, and attributed to no named publisher.

How this stays current

The cost tables are rebuilt from the catalogue and the EIA series and committed as a dated file; the date at the top of this page is the date of that rebuild, and every line carries the fetch date of its own source underneath. Where a source has moved on since we read it, the stale date is visible rather than hidden — a figure whose age you can see is a figure you can decide about.
