Sunlighten Saunas Review: The Closest Anyone Gets, and the Number They Still Do Not Show

Sunlighten publishes a price on all 111 products it sells. It states a seven-year warranty on its cabin pages and shows an ETL mark. It runs a dedicated page explaining that its heaters are low EMF, with figures on it, and names the lab that took them.

None of those figures appear on a single one of its 24 cabin product pages.

This is the fourth premium brand we have examined and the result is the same every time. We do not sell any of them. We sell 26 full spectrum cabins from other manufacturers, and our own suppliers do worse than all four.

Four brands, four for four

Every one of these companies claims low EMF on the cabin page. Not one publishes the figure there.

• Sun Home: 0 of 24 product pages, with two named labs and two dates sitting on a category page instead.
• Clearlight: 0 of 11 cabins, while their buyer's guide carries the most conservative measurement position in the category.
• Sunlighten: 0 of 24 cabins, with the figures on a marketing page two clicks away.
• HigherDose: Electrical Field: Low EMF printed in a spec table with no number after it.

Four independent companies, four different websites, one identical decision. That is a category norm, not a coincidence four times over. The adjective goes where the buyer is standing and the measurement goes where the marketing lives.

Our own suppliers are worse, and this is where we come off badly. We read 39 manufacturer spec sheets covering cabins we stock. Some state EMF at 2 to 3 inches from the panel and some at 6 to 8, which are not comparable readings, and nine of the 39 give two different distances for the same sauna in two rows of one table. At least the four brands above have a number to withhold.

What Sunlighten does that the others do not

Credit where it is earned, because they are the closest anyone in this category gets.

Seventeen of their 24 cabin pages name a lab or carry an ETL certification mark. Fifteen state a warranty term, and it is seven years. No other brand in this set puts either on a product page. Our own suppliers do not either. If you want to know what covers a Sunlighten cabin, you can find out without speaking to anyone, which is not true of most of this industry.

They also publish wavelengths where the wavelength is the product. Seven of their 16 red light items state theirs, at 660, 850, 880, 630 and 700 nm. Across the 24 red light equipped saunas we stock, not one publishes any.

The number that undercuts it

Fifteen of 24, not 24 of 24. Seventeen of 24, not 24 of 24. Nine cabins state no warranty and seven name no certification, and a buyer who lands on one of those pages sees exactly what they would see on any other brand's. Whatever internal rule puts the warranty on a product page is not applied across the range, and from outside there is no way to tell which cabins were missed or why.

Two competitors arguing without naming each other

Clearlight's buyer's guide states: most competitors offer only seven-year warranties or less.

Neither company names the other. A buyer would have to read both websites, notice that one is describing the other, and work out that the comparison is being made about them rather than to them. That is what shopping this category actually looks like when nobody publishes the same number in the same place. The figures are not hidden so much as scattered, and the work of assembling them falls entirely on the person spending the money.

The two figures that can be compared

One genuine bright spot. Sunlighten and Sun Home both use Vitatech to test EMF. Same laboratory, so their two figures can be set against each other and mean something.

Nothing in our catalogue can be compared that way, because our suppliers each measure at whatever distance suits them and several cannot agree with themselves inside a single table. Two competitors accidentally created the only like-for-like EMF comparison in this category, and both of them keep it off the product page.

The four warranty positions

• Sunlighten is a manufacturer, and says so plainly: directly involved in every step of production. Seven years on the cabin, stated on the page.
• Clearlight is a manufacturer. Lifetime residential, five years commercial.
• Sun Home is a manufacturer. Lifetime, on most models, without saying which.
• Almost Heaven is owned by Harvia. Lifetime on the room, one year on the heating elements.
• We are a retailer. A retailer cannot warrant something it did not build. You get the manufacturer's term, and our job is to tell you what it is before you pay. Across our heater brands, HUUM excludes heating elements outright from its five-year cover and Narvi covers resistors for twelve months against two years on the stove.

Of those five positions, Sunlighten's is the shortest and the clearest. Seven years, in writing, on the page, before you talk to a salesperson. Length is not the only thing that matters in a warranty.

Price

Sunlighten's cabins run $4,999 to $13,499. Our full spectrum range runs $2,699 to $9,999, median $4,847. Both are entry prices, the cheapest way into each unit, so they compare like for like.

Their real advantage here is not the number, it is that the number exists. All 111 of their products carry a price on a working storefront with a cart. Clearlight gates every cabin behind a consultation. Who should buy Sunlighten

Someone who wants a manufacturer-built cabin, a published price, a stated warranty and a certification mark, and who is willing to pay above our range for the combination. That is a coherent purchase and the documentation behind it is better than most of what we sell.

Someone whose decision turns on EMF should check which cabin they are actually looking at. Read the low EMF page on the marketing site, then ask whether those figures apply to that specific model, at what distance, tested when. Ask every seller the same four questions: what is the mG figure, what distance was it measured at, who measured it, and when. Sunlighten can answer all four if you ask. So can Sun Home. Clearlight can answer the first two better than anyone. Most of the industry, ourselves included, cannot answer all four, and knowing which questions a company cannot answer tells you more than any brochure will.
